Jonathan Jackson Reflects On Working With ‘GH’ Dad Tony Geary
GH star Jonathan Jackson looks back and reflects on working with Tony Geary. What did the younger actor learn from his TV dad? Keep reading for all the details.
Where Is Tony Geary These Days?
Tony Geary retired from acting in 2015. He had played Luke Spencer off and on since 1978. The role earned him a record eight Daytime Emmy Awards. He was one-half of the most popular soap couple of all time for decades.
The actor briefly returned in 2017 to help usher Tracy Quartermaine out of Port Charles when Jane Elliot retired. The actress came out of retirement several times since then and is currently in the middle of a huge storyline.
Could Tony Geary follow a similar path and come out of retirement? The soap killed Luke Spencer off, but could easily bring him back from the dead. Kelly Monaco, who stars as Sam on GH, recently visited her former co-star in Amsterdam, where he lives full-time since retiring.
The soap vet looked happy and healthy in retirement, but there’s always a chance he could return to his old stomping grounds. Especially now that Jonathan Jackson is on his way back to the ABC soap.
Jonathan Jackson Shares What He Learned From His TV Dad
Jonathan Jackson’s time on ABC’s General Hospital was especially memorable, thanks in part to his on-screen father, Anthony Geary. Jackson portrayed Lucky Spencer, Luke’s son, from 1993 to 1999 and again from 2009 until 2011. He also made a brief appearance in 2015 when Tony Geary left.
In a podcast interview with co-star Steve Burton, Jackson reflected on the impact of working with Geary and the lessons he learned from the veteran actor. He credits Geary with teaching him the ins and outs of working on a soap opera.
Jonathan Jackson said that the possibility of working with Genie Francis, who plays Lucky’s mother Laura, was a big factor in his decision to return. He may not be able to work with Tony Geary again, but he has fond memories of the last time they worked together.
“When I came back in 2010, it was incredible to get to work with Tony again after all those years. It’s a very special thing about this medium that you can work with someone when you’re 11 to 17 years old, then work with them again when you’re 28.”
He shared how Tony Geary and Genie Francis both made a mark in his acting choices.“Tony was doing improv, Genie was there, so I learned that from them, and the beauty of spontaneity.”
Jonathan Jackson’s return as Lucky Spencer will happen some time this fall, but the exact air date has yet to be revealed. Are you happy to see him back on GH?
