‘General Hospital’ Fans Rally To Bring Kelly Monaco Back
After more than 20 years on General Hospital, Kelly Monaco was let go. However, fans are rallying to bring the actress back. Viewers have been complaining about GH getting rid of her for weeks. Now, they have taken more desperate measures to get their point across. Keep reading to see how they are attempting to persuade General Hospital to recast Kelly Monaco.
Group Pushes To Bring Kelly Monaco Back To GH
#IStandWithKelly is the hashtag that was created after the news broke about GH letting Kelly Monaco go from the soap. Now, the official campaign behind the actress has taken things a step further.
Kelly’s fans showed out in New York City this weekend. They set up a billboard in NYC’s Tim Square on September 20. The board, which is set up next to the iconic red steps in Times Square has an ad on it to draw attention to their cause.
“Our ad, featuring a QR code that links to the petition, will play all day in 30-second intervals on the 19th and 33rd minute of every hour!” the group shared on social media. They also posted a live stream where you could see the billboard throughout the day.
In the post, they pointed out that not only is NYC a huge tourist attraction, but it is also home to a number of ABC studios. “We are hoping for more eyes on the petition with all of that foot traffic… and we will be sending General Hospital and ABC photos of the billboard too, showing how widespread our message is,” the group concluded the post.
General Hospital Already Recast Kelly’s Role
As General Hospital viewers know, the soap opera decided to let Kelly go. More than that, the GH writers made the decision to kill her character, Sam McCall, off completely sometime in the fall.
Kelly Monaco has played the role of Sam McCall since 2003. Since the news broke of her exit from the soap, fans have been doing everything they can to make sure that doesn’t happen.
The group said they plan to have pop-up events where they bring the billboard out at other locations. Next week, they plan to continue their fight to keep Kelly Monaco on General Hospital in Los Angeles.
However, there is no telling if this will have any impact on the soap opera. It has been stated that Kelly’s firing was “storyline dictated,” which many people felt was a cop-out. On top of that, it also seems like Kelly won’t even get to act out her death scenes.
Lindsay Hartley has been cast as Sam McCall for the time being, so it looks like fans have unfortunately seen the last of the soap actress in Port Charles. Only time will tell.
General Hospital airs on weekdays on ABC.
