General Hospital fans were met with a jaw-dropping supernatural twist as the ghost of Bobbie Spencer’s daughter B.J., who died after a deadly school bus crash, returned for the memorial episodes.

This week viewers grew emotional as the famous soap opera series paid tribute to the character of Bobbie, played by actress Jacklyn Zeman, after the beloved star passed away at 70 years old in May of 2023. In two tear-filled memorial episodes fans got a chance to reflect on Bobbie’s most memorable moments on the show thanks to the return of the ghost of B.J., who is introduced in the series as a reporter named Angela that attended Bobbie’s funeral service.

Actress Brighton Hertford originally starred as B.J. on the soap opera from four months old to seven years old as Bobbie’s daughter. B.J.’s storyline was cut short as her character was badly hurt in a school bus crash that landed her into a coma and later died. But this week B.J. returned as a 30-year-old woman as she was introduced to the cast as a reporter interested in writing a story about the life and legacy of Bobbie.

In the second tribute episode Angela sat down with all of Bobbie’s closest friends and family and interviewed them about their fondest memories with her over the years. The “reporter,” who is really a ghost, interviewed Laura Spencer who hilariously recounted a memory of when she was fighting with Bobbie over a crush they both shared. Later Lucas Spencer spoke about his mother’s caring spirit and the way she always fearlessly stood up for those around her.

Josslyn, Willow, and Michael also spoke about their past memories with Bobbie bringing up the iconic moment that she decided to wear a black dress to Nelle’s wedding to protest. Scott and Lucy later chimed in coining Bobbie as the “best nurse at General Hospital” and how much they admired her always unapologetically speaking her mind. Liz spoke about being sexually assaulted as a teenager and how Bobbie helped her through it and was the perfect person to confide that never made her feel ashamed

At the end of the episode it was revealed that the reporter was actually the ghost of B.J. during a shocking one-on-one interaction with Lucas. After Lucas said goodbye to his friends at the diner he stepped outside and runs to Angela. During the conversation Angela thanks him for taking the time to talk to her and sweetly calls him “champ” and then suddenly disappears once he turns around again. At the same moment characters all realize that it was the ghost of B.J. as Felicia suddenly had a flashback of BJ when she was a child and Maxie has the same realization.

When asked about her shocking return to the show as the ghost of B.J., Brighton gushed that she was overjoyed at the opportunity to honor Jacklyn in such an interesting way. She told People: “It’s been a while since I’ve been on a professional set and I thought, you know, if anything would get me back into doing that, it would be something like this. I knew how much of an impact Jackie had on my life and, of course, countless others.”
