Kelly Monaco addresses her ‘General Hospital’ exit: ‘Still doesn’t make any sense to me’
Kelly Monaco is weighing in on her exit from “General Hospital” after 21 years of starring on the daytime soap opera.
In August, fans of the ABC series were shocked to see the reports that the veteran star would be moving on from her role as Sam McCall. Nearly 17,000 viewers even signed a Change.org petition to keep the actor on the cast.
Now, Monaco has shared a bittersweet message on Instagram that suggests she wasn’t exactly thrilled to leave the show.
“Last scene with the Davis girls. 😘🥲🙏🏻 still doesn’t make any sense to me,” the actor captioned a photo of herself posing on set with three of her co-stars.
TODAY.com has reached out to ABC for comment.
Monaco’s co-star Nancy Lee Grahn, who plays her mother, Alexis Davis, shared an encouraging comment on the post.
“I love you. All will be well. There are some things a TV mother just knows,” she wrote before leaving a string of emoji that included heart and crying emoji.
TV personality Shanna Moakler wrote the following reaction: “Keep your chin up…. God has bigger plans for you… better plans. Love you.”
Many of Monaco’s fans also weighed in on her surprising departure from Port Charles while offering their support.
“I agree with you @kelly_m23 it sure doesn’t make any sense, you will be greatly missed on GH. You’re a great actress, and so totally loved,” one commented.
“It doesn’t make sense to any of us,” another commented.
Michael Easton, who has played Dr. Hamilton Finn on “General Hospital” since 2016, announced his own departure from the show in June. One fan lamented the loss of both veteran stars.
“First Michael Easton and now you. My heart is broken. Not just for all of us but for you and Michael who gave your all to this show and to @ABC. It just will not be the same without you,” one fan commented.
In September, Monaco’s mother thanked her daughter’s fans for their “unwavering love, loyalty, and support” in a post on Instagram and revealed that the actor was preparing to wrap up her time on set.
“On this final day, just four days shy of the anniversary of her first episode on October 1, 2003, Kelly will close the door of her dressing room for the last time. This moment is a difficult one, but knowing that she has had such an incredible, devoted fan base has given her strength,” she wrote.
