General Hospital’s Jonathan Jackson opens up about return to show and working with Genie Francis

Appearing on The Daily Drama podcast hosted by Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson, Jonathan Jackson said he would return to General Hospital to reprise his role as Lucky Spencer

After a decade away, Jonathan Jackson is coming back to Port Charles.

The actor is known for his role as Lucky Spencer, the son of Laura Spencer, on General Hospital. Laura is played by Genie Francis, who Jonathan credits with his return to the show. Jonathan appeared on The Daily Drama podcast to talk about it. The show is hosted by fellow General Hospital star Steve Burton and soap star Bradford Anderson. “I know you have a big cheerleader in Genie Francis,”

Steve told Jonathan on the show, adding that he was “excited” to see the on-screen mother and son back together again. Jonathan was then asked if Genie being on General Hospital currently had anything to do with Jonathan’s decision to return.

Jonathan is excited to work with Genie again

“I know you have a big cheerleader in Genie Francis,” Steve told Jonathan on the show, adding that he was “excited” to see the on-screen mother and son back together again. Jonathan was then asked if Genie being on General Hospital currently had anything to do with Jonathan’s decision to return.

He said: “Honestly, that has a huge part in it for me.” Jonathan made his first General Hospital appearance in 1993 when he was just 11 years old. He left in 1999, then returned in 2010 for two years and has made a few appearances on the show since.

When he returned back then, he didn’t get to work with Genie as much as he would have liked, which “definitely came into play” when he made the decision to return. “I don’t want to sound corny or sentimental, but it’s a very special thing about this medium that you can work with someone when you’re 11 to 17 years old and then work with them again when you’re 28,” Jonathan said.

“But Genie wasn’t there for those couple years,” he continued, “I got to work with her very briefly in 2015 for those few episodes, but I always thought, ‘Man, I would love to be able to really get to work with her again.’”

It hasn’t been officially announced when Jonathan will return to the long-running soap opera, but he did drop a hint that he would be on our television screens for a “long run.” He added that he’s excited to see how Lucky and Laura’s relationship develops.

He said that the two “really been able to have any kind of substantial story together since I was 17, 18 years old. It’s wild.”
